health.
Health to me is everything. As an overweight child I knew the trauma and shame of being unhealthy early on. Having struggled with weight and eating issues growing up, health to me is an issue not just of longevity and well being, but of self esteem, healing, and self worth as well. What saddens me the most about health in our modern society is not only the state of public health in general, but the lack of access to resources for many who desparately need them. I'm lucky to be able to manage my health because of my access to quality gyms, the ability to afford healthy food, and access to resources in general that many in our society are denied. In America, politicians debate about healthcare, while the issue of populations who don't have a healthcare facility in their area isn't even brought to light. The existence of health deserts should stand as a crime against both children and the public in general. Basic health should be a birthright, not a privilege. Though I myself don't occupy a position to make much of a difference on the state of public health, managing my health the best I can and offering help to those in my life is something I try to not take for granted.
